TGIF BREAKFAST BUFFET

Friday, January 19, 2018

We sat our alarms to get up early for the TGIF Breakfast Buffet here that starts at 8:00 AM.  For $7.00 a person, you get all you can eat of Sausage and Biscuits, Eggs, Sausage Links and Bacon, Potatoes, Stuffed French Toast Casseroles (2 flavors), 6 choices of Quiche, Sticky Buns, OJ, Fruit Cups, and Coffee.  OMGosh....it was awesome.  Came away stuffed.  Don't need lunch today. They do this every Friday during the winter.

It didn't get as cold last night as they said it would so Roger didn't disconnect the water.  It warmed up nicely in the afternoon so we could open all the windows. Ahhhhhh

JACK FROST GO HOME!!!!

Thursday, January  18, 2018

Really didn't do much of anything today as it was quite chilly...actually, it was cold!! . Really getting fed up with this cold weather down here!!  The citrus growers are all struggling to save their crops...NOT good!!  I went over to the office to talk to the owner of the park, who we met at the RV Show yesterday. about getting a refund for March so we could go to a different park. We didn't know until we got here that we had to pay 3 months in full up front.   He said he had to "think about it" and we haven't heard back from him.

Later in the afternoon we did sit out in the sun and read our books then went over to Stu and Diane's patio for a some chit chat.  Once the sun starts to go down here, it gets real cold real quick so we packed up and walked the 10 yards back to our trailer.  Watched the return shows of Greys Anatomy and Scandal.  Both are getting very bizarre!!

TAMPA RV SUPERSHOW

Wednesday, January 17, 2018

Up at the crack of 7:00, had some coffee and an apple fritter...Roger had a Bob Evans Sausage and Egg Bowl and then we were off to Tampa.  Stu said his GPS indicated there was a big backup on the X-way so he reset his GPS to take us there the back way.  It was truly the BACK way!!!  We saw lots of winding roads, orange groves, and strawberry fields (Forever)....Ha Ha, get it?  Also saw lots of nothingness, but as it turned out he made the right choice because we came in the back entrance to the Fairgrounds, & found parking right by the gate.  We later learned that the x-way coming from the North was stopped and gridlocked with people trying to get off to get to the show.  Yikes...that would NOT have been fun!!

The show was HUGE and unfortunately got very crowded.  The one model we went there specifically to see (and we were told by 2 different salesmen on 2 separate occasions that it WOULD be there) was not there.  Unbelievable...you go to the dealership on 2 different occasions, 3 days apart and we were told, as they looked at their inventory sheet, oh yes we have that model it's out on the lot  Hop on the golf cart and drive all over (over 1,000 units on the lot) looking for it only to be told, 1.) it's in a service bay being prepped and 2.) oh they already took it up to Tampa for the RV show.  Wrong, Wrong, and Wrong.  We have yet to see it.

After the show we went to Wendy's for "Linner" and then to LazyDays to look at a used unit.  Then we trekked on back to Arcadia.  Another long, but fun, day.

By the way the temperature plummeted!!!  It was hot when we got to Tampa and freezing when we left!!  This cold weather can go away anytime now!!!

A CATCH UP DAY

Tuesday, January 16, 2018

Did some laundry today, as did Diane...but she has a washer/dryer in her 40' motorhome!!!  Also did some grocery shopping.  Have to go more frequently because refrigerator space and cupboard storage space is not plentiful.

That evening had some cocktails and snacks over at Stu and Diane's patio as they have the sun in the evening and it's warmer there.  We planned our trip to the Tampa area RV Supershow for Wednesday.  Decided we would drive and Stu would navigate and we'd leave around 8:00 am as it would take about an hour and a half to get there.

ANOTHER DAY IN FT. MYERS

Monday, January 15, 2018

Our friends, Stu and Diane wanted to take a drive to North Trail RV in Ft. Myers to look at Winnebago Motor Homes so we tagged along.  I showed Diane the model I was interested in and she put her stamp of approval on it.  I told Roger, "that's it...that's the one I want..."  He looked at me said, "be realistic"!!!  I thought I was!!

While over that way, we decided to head to Fisherman's Village again for lunch at The Captains Table on Charlotte Harbor.  Again, we were not disappointed in the cuisine or the view.  It was a beautiful sunny warm day and people were eating out on the deck.  We didn't....because I don't like seagulls flying over my food!!

Diane and I went to Bingo.  I won a game but had to split it with another winner.  Got $13.00 though!!

Busy day....when we got back, I promptly fell asleep in the recliner!!

FUN NEW NEIGHBORS ARRIVE

Sunday, January 14, 2018

I fixed a big breakfast for us and Roger began doing some general maintenance things outside and I was tidying up inside.  When I get done cooking breakfast, every square inch of the galley area is dirty and covered with dishes and pots and pans.  Doesn't take much to trash 240 sq'.

I told Roger during breakfast, "...don't be surprised if Stu and Diane pull in behind us today...".  They are one of the couples we met in Navarre.  We knew they were coming here for a week, but had reserved a spot in the old section.  However, she asked me what site # we were in to confirm and said walking back and forth to each others site wouldn't be a problem (Stu uses a cane).  Also, while Roger and I were setting out yesterday, one of the maintenance guys came by to make sure the electricity was on at the site behind us.  I asked him if we were getting neighbors and he said, "yes, tomorrow".  I put 2 and 2 together and had a high suspicion the new neighbors would be stu and Diane.

Sure enough, around noon, Roger popped his head inside and said, "Stu and Diane" are here!!! So exciting to have someone to talk with and do things with.  This park is not real "friend" oriented.  After they got all set up and tidied up, we joing them on their patio for cocktails.

Roger and I went to Pizza Hut for a thin crust pizza.

AN OUTING TO FT. MYERS

Saturday, January 13, 2018

I was feeling MUCH better today and was beginning to suffer from "cabin fever" so I suggested we take a drive over to Ft Myers to North Trail RV and look at some new and used motorhomes.  It's always fun to pursue your "Dreams".  We think we'd like a motorhome to spend more time traveling and seeing the country...maybe even sell the house.  Our Realtor keeps us apprised of the going prices around us and as of this week, he said they are getting OVER asking price...and are we ready to sell???

It was fun getting out and looking at new motorhomes.  Only a few would really work for us, but I think we did find the PERFECT floorplan for us.  Now to figure out a way to come up with the $$$ and to have Roger still be able to fly.

ROGER IS "SUZY HOMEMAKER"

Friday, January 12, 2018

Just kind of laid low today.  Not feeling too spunky due to the flu bug.  They said with the Tamiflu, I should start feeling better within 48 hours and also would no longer be contagious.  I think I don't have the really bad stuff....just body and head aches and a sore throat.  Roger has taken over the cleaning and cooking duties...AND the dishwashing!!!  On 2nd thought....I may feel poorly for a few more days....Tee Hee :-)

Today starts the crafting weekend back home.  Linda is really excited for it.  I'll miss going.

"CRS" AND THE FLU BUG

Thursday, January 11, 2017

Since I'm writing this a week after this date....and since I didn't take any notes....I don't have a clue what we did this day...well on 2nd thought, I don't think we did much because I was down with the flu.  I started not feeling well yesterday afternoon. Called my Dr.at hoe and got an RX for Tamiflu.  The BAD flue is rampant all over and I didn't want to take a chance.

A FOGGY DRIVE TO WAUCHULA

Wednesday, January 10, 2018

Drove up to Wauchula this morning  to see the dentist.  It was EXTREMELY foggy.  Fog burned off around noon and it was a balmy 80 today.  Fortunately, this dentist was able to just re-cement crown back on.  He said no guarantees....may last a day, a week, a month....who knows???

Roger went back to the driving range today.  I did the pool.

FINDING A DENTIST IN FLORIDA....NOT FUN!!!

Tuesday, January 9th

Last night a crown on one of my visible teeth came off!!!  This morning I literally spent HOURS....like about 4....trying to find a Dentist close by that took my insurance.  I'd think I found one and then when I gave them my insurance number they'd say, oh we don't take that!!!  Then I'd call BC back and say I NEED a dentist!!  I MUST get this cap re-cemented before I do more damage.
As luck would have it, Roger was out for a walk and he happened upon a couple from Michigan setting out by there motorhome and he stopped to chat.  They asked where I was and he told them I was on the phone trying to find a dentist and what had happened.  They said, they'd been coming here for years and they use a dentist in Wauchula that is about 20 minutes north of here and they really liked him.  I called and they don't take insurance but their rates were HALF of what I'd been quoted for dentists in Punta Gorda....plus he is 40 minutes closer!!  So, tomorrow I'm off for a hopefully only a re-cementing ... and not a new crown!!!!  Dear God....please let this be able to glue back on!!!  It's actually a crown I got when expecting our son, who is 37 !!!!  Guess I got my money's worth!!

Before I began all this phone calling, we went for our intro class at the new Fitness Center.

Tonight's dinner at the Club House was Burger night.  They grilled them outside!!  We also had baked beans, chips, pop, & cookie.  Not bad for $6.00 and we didn't have to cook!!

Today was 80 degrees and mostly sunny and NO wind.  There were actually people in the pool and hot tub today and many laying out catching some "rays".  FINALLY !!!  It will cool off a little next week but hopefully no more temps I the 40s and below.  Last week it got below freezing a couple of nights and some water lines froze and a lot of the more delicate palms & flowers got zinged by the freeze and are now turning brown. We have a lush row of greenery across from us that are now all brown on the top.  :-(  Boo Hoo.

A MOTORHOME AND A GRAND BANKS TRAWLER....ARE YOU KIDDING ME?????

Monday, January 8, 2018

The CampLink that we signed up for last week expires today and we decided not to renew it.  One reason being it didn't really work all that well and you could only have 2 devices on at one time and inevitably, one of us would forget to turn one off when we were done and then we couldn't get on until we knocked the 2 devices off and started over.  Plus, we'd be online and for no reason...bam....we were knocked off!!!  After many calls to CampLink we decided to not renew.  Instead, we called Verizon and found out that for $20.00 more a month, we could double our data to 16 G so we did that and see how that works out. I probably used it all up tonight catching up this Blog!!   We also do not have cable hook up and no way to get it without buying a satellite system and that's not going to happen at this point!!  No sports stations, ie: ESPN so Roger missed a lot of football games and I am missing my Smithsonian channel and Nat Geo and HGTV...and on and on.  Oh well...at least we have a good TV antenna and can get broadcast channels from Tampa and Ft.Myers.  I think a part that is rated a 10/10/10 from Good Sam (Highest Rating Possible) should have FREE WiFi and Cable in ALL sites...period!!!  The 700s do not have either. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.... BUT...we do have 2 water spigots per site!!  Whoo Hoo!!

We saw a lot of golf carts and cars parked at the ClubHouse this morning while out walking so we decided to see what we were missing.  Unfortunately, it was free coffee and donuts and the weekly update meeting.  OOPS !!!  We'll be there next Monday.

After a long walk, we met a couple from Ontario who are truly living Roger's Dream....during the winter they live in their brand new 2018 Tiffin Allegro motorhome and during the summer they live on their 50' Grand Banks trawler and travel the Great Lakes.  OMG....when I first talked to him, I told him my husband would go crazy for this...plus, his "toad" is a Jeep Wrangler that matches his motorhome.  I had to take Roger back to meet him.  Their names are Rod and Elise and they invited us in to tour their Allegro.  VERY NICE!!  1 1/2 baths!!!  I could get use to that!!!

They have BINGO here on Mondays and Thursdays so I went to see how it works here.  Oh Boy...it is definitely different than BINGO at Emerald Beach.  The jackpots are a LOT bigger.  For instance, one game had a jackpot of $100.00 and most games are over $25.00.  Plus they play a lot of different games, all of which you can buy into or not.  Anna, who sat to my left won twice and left $127.00 richer and Diana, who sat on my right won $25.00.  Me???  Nothing, Zip, Nada!!  The park provides free popcorn for all and pop and candy and ice-cream to buy.

The weather is becoming more like what you would expect in Florida...NICE !!

A GOOD DAY FOR HITTING GOLF BALLS

Sunday, January 7, 2018

My good intentions of getting up and going to church services in the clubhouse did not work out so well as I slept well past time to get up, get ready, and go.  Next week I will have to set my alarm.  I'm sleeping in way too much since we've been traveling.  It's so easy to do!!!

The weather today is gorgeous.  Sunny and mid to high 70s.  Finally, the wind has calmed down.  Roger wanted to go to the driving range just down the road, so I went with him.  This driving range, as we found out, was severely damaged during Hurricane Irma and the replacement nets they ordered are not here yet.  Hopefully next month they said.  So, we drove North to a course called The Bluffs to use their driving range.  This is the course that the golfing clubs here at the resort use.  Roger did very well.  I reminded him to start out sloooooow and smooth so he doesn't hurt his back again like he did 3 years ago when we were in Florida.  Also, he has new golf shoes and he needed to break them in.  All in all he did well and was pretty pleased.  He encouraged me to hit some balls too....which I attempted to do.  I think I had ONE pretty good shot!!!  I didn't bring my clubs so if I play I'll have to rent some and they only have men's!!!!  WTH... male chauvinism at the golf course!!!

A fun day to be outside.  Later, we took a LONG walk over most of this park.  There are LOTS of roads in here.  A lot of people were setting out and everyone is very friendly and waves and says Hi....but....they are with their "permanent" friends and don't really engage in conversation.

COOKING BREAKFAST (OR ANYTHING) IN AN RV

Saturday, January 6, 2018

I cooked a huge breakfast this morning for us. It's quite interesting cooking a big meal in a travel trailer.  You have to be very innovative as to where you prepare, cook, serve, and clean-up.  I'll try to remember to post a picture of what our kitchen looked like after breakfast!!

Thought about going to the Driving Range today, but so windy out it wouldn't be a good judge of where your shots were really going.  Maybe tomorrow as it's supposed to start warming up and calming down tomorrow.

OAK GROVE RV RESORT...Live & Learn Lesson

Friday, January 5, 2018

Roger's brother told us about a new RV park, still under construction, in LaBelle, FL that they were considering for next year.  We looked it up on the internet and decided to take a ride down there to take a look see.  It's called Oak Park RV Resort.  It has all brick paver pads and is mostly RVs, not park models, which is a big plus for it in our book.  We took a tour and talked to the office.  It's a very nice park and will be even better when construction ends this year.  They are even building a 146 seat onsite restaurant and a little General Store.  There is already a small cafĂ© and a beauty/barber shop onsite.  They also will be growing their own fresh produce and selling it onsite.  We'll keep an eye on this one and see how it goes.  It's much smaller than where we are and because it's all RVs, and all new...people will be much more open to socializing together and making friends than in a park like where we are now that is so huge and has so many permanents.  If we hadn't paid for 3 months in advance here (non-refundable)....I'd highly suggest hooking up and moving down there.  It's about an hour south of here.

Live and Learn....when RVing, do NOT tie yourself into a long term in a park...there might be something better down the road AND traveling around is what it's all about.

FISHERMAN'S VILLAGE IN PUNTA GORDA

Thursday, January 4, 2018

OK, enough is enough!!!  We have got to get off the reservation today and do something!!  We decided to drive to Punta Gorda and visit Fisherman's Village.  It is a cutesy grouping of little boutiques and restaurants on Charlotte Bay and a huge Marina with mega yachts in it.  We knew there was a really good restaurant at the end of the boutique avenue, overlooking the bay, so we braved the wind blowing through there like we were in a wind tunnel...and went to The Captains Table for lunch.  Got a really nice seat by the big window overlooking the Bay.  There were boats going in and out of the Marina but I shivered just looking at them on the water.  Baby it's cold out there!!!  I think they were going fishing, and as my grandson-in-law can attest to, there's not a day better than one spent fishing....regardless of the temperature!!  Right JD????

It was a good day for a ride.  Sunshine and a "little" warmer than it has been.

THE 50's DINER

Wednesday, January 3 2018

After a very good breakfast at the 50s Diner in town, we did some exploring of  Cross Creek RV Resort today and checked out the brand new Fitness Center. The 50s Diner does NOT look like a 50s diner.  I was expecting an aluminum trailer looking building with red vinyl seats.  It's actually a very small country looking place with wooden benches for seats but their breakfasts are DE-LISH!!!  The new Fitness Center here is really awesome with state of the art equipment and immaculate, huge showers.  We found out that every Tuesday at 10:30, they do an intro lesson on all the equipment.  We'll attend next week.

Still Cold and Windy so mostly just hung out in the trailer today.  Should have worked on this Blog....but ended up just browsing the internet and watching TV.  Hoping the darn wind stops soon.  We are getting weary of it!!

THE OLE HOMESTEAD = MELANCHOLY

Tuesday, January 2, 2018

Again, the weather is quite cold...very cold....and extremely windy.  Wouldn't be using the outdoor furniture anyhow but definitely wouldn't put it out in this wind.  Hoping it doesn't last long.

Roger did a few "putzy maintenance" things and then we went out to explore Arcadia.  My parents had a winter home here in Arcadia for over 20 years in a resort called Arcadia Village, which is an over 55 double-wide park.  We drove there to check out the ole homestead.  We found it right off and it was in excellent shape.  While snapping pictures to send to my siblings, the current owner came out.  (I'm sure he thought we were up to no good) I immediately told him why we were there and we struck up a good conversation.  His wife came home while we were talking and he introduced me as the daughter of the 1st owner of their home.  They invited me in to see what they had done since they bought it.  It looked very nice...and very familiar.  I became a little melancholy !!

Still too windy to do anything outside.  Not many people walking about around here...not like Emerald Beach RV Park.  I did meet some ladies in the laundry room (where 50% of the machines are out of order) who seemed really nice and invited us to join them in the clubhouse tonight for their weekly park dinner.  Tonight is fried chicken and mashed potatoes for $6.00/person.  I liked it, but Roger was not a fan of the chicken.  Oh well, at least I didn't have to cook !!

This park has NO WiFi or Cable here in the "New" part....referred to as "The 700s".  We need internet so we signed up for a connection to WiFi from a company called CampLink.  I bought a week for $15.00 to try it out.  Hopefully, it works good.

HAPPY 2018

Monday, January 1, 2018

We left after saying good-bye to Jim and Gloria.  The office was closed for the Holiday so we couldn't pay.  We just told Jim if they want their money, tell them to send us a bill....but deduct $$ for no water!!!

We only had an hour drive to Cross Creek RV Resort in Arcadia and I just couldn't wait to get there and see it and have water!!!  Arriving at Cross Creek was quite impressive with their palm lined entry street beyond the gated entrance (that's open during the day).  After getting checked in and paying for the next 3 months in ADVANCE :-(....didn't know we had to do that...we were escorted to our site #771 in the new area of the resort.  The sites are HUGE, about 50' x 100' and since we are on a curve in the road, it's even roomier.  In some parks, they would put a unit between us and each of our neighbors!!!  It's very new out here and pretty much only temporary RVs...like us, except we are the ONLY travel trailer out here!!!   It's not full, but will probably be soon...so they tell us.

We did a quick tour of the park and all of the amenities before settling in for the night. It is cold and extremely windy, so we can't put out our furniture or it would blow away.   There are 620 sites here and new ones being added now.  However, we estimate that 90%, or more, of the sites are permanent RVs or Park Models.

NEW YEARS EVE IN ZEPHYRHILLS

Sunday, December 31, 2017

We left North Ocala and headed south to Zephyrhills with the promise of WATER hook up and a shower and the ability to do dishes!!  We were heading for Happy Days RV Park, where our friends Jim and Gloria are staying...and in fact, just bought a permanent park model there for future winters.  When we arrived, there was no one in the office and no envelope on the door for our check in so we just went to our site.  Jim came over to help us.  The sites were tight and the roads narrow.  Getting parked was a little "tricky".  Jim had to take down a neighbors wind chimes that were by the road and were in our way of backing in.  The sites were grass so we didn't have to maneuver onto a cement pad.  Roger got us hooked up to electric and when he went to hook up the water....water came out of the top of the faucet all over everything...and him!! Lo and behold the damn thing was broken and no way for us to hook up to water!!!  When he told me, I said, "...you have GOT to be kidding me!"  2 parks in a row...I don't believe it.  But, alas, it was true...again, no water!!  After lunch at a Mexican Restaurant, we went to Publix and got some jugs of water to use....along with some snacks for tonight's New Years Eve party at their clubhouse.

There was a DJ at the party who was quite good.  Unfortunately, a LOT of people brought cheese, salami and crackers as their snack to pass so we had a LOT of cheese and salami and crackers!!  We all managed to stay up until midnight and welcome in 2018 with kisses and well wishes.

HEADING EAST...THEN SOUTH

Saturday, December 30, 2017

Left Navarre at 7:58AM and headed East on I-10 on our way to southern Florida and hopefully warmer temps.  We made reservations to spend tonight at Ocala North RV Park...which amazingly, is north of Ocala :-)  Tee Hee. in Reddick, Florida...in the middle of beautiful "horse country".  We arrived at 4:30 PM.  It was just an overnight stop so not much to tell except we had NO WATER !!  Evidently, there had been a break in a water line "up the hill" so no city water and very little water in our holding tank, as we don't like to travel with the added weight.  Don't like having no water!!!  I wanted a partial refund, but Roger said "forget it".

ANOTHER WIN FOR ME !!!

Friday, December 29,, 2017

Yep....STILL cold....but not as cold as it's going to get here!!!  I know it's worse up north but...JEEZ!!!  Didn't do much during the day but they did decide to have ice cream and games down at the clubhouse so we went to those events for the last time before leaving tomorrow.  AND.....I won Right, Left, Center again and so did Melinda.  There weren't many playing, but we each won $11.00 in quarters.  Not too shabby.  I'll use them in the laundry rooms.

STILL COLD....MOVING ON

Thursday, December 28, 2017

Still cold and gloomy looking.  We decided to leave on Saturday and start heading further south.  We were paying rent at Cross Creek beginning on the 1st so we decided to take advantage of it.  Figured it would get warmer there quicker than in the panhandle.  Started to get things ready to leave both inside and out.  Took down outside Christmas Decorations and donated them to the park.
