GOOD FOOD & BEAUTIFUL SANTA ROSA ISLAND

Thursday November 30 - Sunday December 3

I hadn't really planned on decorating for Christmas this year so I did not bring any decorations with me other than the little Christmas Tree, our daughter insisted we have and gave to us before we left home as one of our Christmas presents.  Everyone here in the park is decorating their rigs and their sites with all kinds of stuff so basically, I was shamed into decorating.  I went to a resale shop about a half mile from here and got some Christmas Decorations for a pittance.  Then I decided I needed to do more so I visited an A.C. Moore store.  BIG MISTAKE!!!  Being a crafting junkie, I should stay away from all craft stores but I had never been in an A.C. Moore and a neighbor told me, "...you MUST go..."  Yikes!!  This store is a JoAnns and Michaels combined and then put on steroids.  It was awesome and the prices were much better than either of the aforementioned stores.  I got a lot of decorations and craft supplies.  I'll post pictures in a few days, when I get my little tree up.

Shadow Box I made from a shadow box I bought at AC Moore and some of the seashells I collected.

Thursday night we went to a restaurant in Destin called "Bucks....soon to be famous...BBQ"  We've been hungry for some smoked and BBQ'd meats.  Too funny...when you go in, you see plain wooden tables and chairs but no waitresses.  Oh yes...you go to a counter and order and they bring it to you.  I ordered pulled pork basket and Roger ordered beef brisket.  Our sides were brought in Styrofoam bowls and then a tidy wrapped up package was placed in front of each of us.  The meat was wrapped up and sitting on 2 pieces of plain bread.  Utensils were plastic and there were no plates...just paper and Styrofoam.  Sounds bad eh?  It turned out to be THE BEST tasting smoked meat I've ever had !!  We got so much meat we had dinner the next night too.

We've met another really nice couple from South Carolina.  They are younger than we are but still fit in with everyone here.  They told us about a wholesale seafood market in Pensacola that sells to the public.  We must go there!!!  They are on extended travel through February, when she has to decide if she's going back to work (on a sabbatical now) at Ford or if she's going to start her own business that would fit in well with RVing.

Today we took a drive west down Santa Rosa Island all the way to Pensacola.  This Island is a narrow but very long stretch of land out in the Gulf.  Our RV park looks out across a sound to this Island.  It's reached by a causeway less than a mile from us. We drove through a National Seashore that is so beautiful.  The dunes look like snow covered atolls, but they are powdery white sand.  Picture miles of this against the emerald colored Gulf waters and you have a perfect picture.  We stopped at a couple of beaches along the route to do some "shelling".  The more deserted the beach...the more shells one finds.  Each of us found a whole sand dollar today, along with some really unique shells...SCORE !!  I hope to make a shadow box of a beach scene.

Today is also our Daughter, Penny's Birthday.

The weather has been exceptionally nice since we've been here.  Yesterday it was 80 degrees.

Our friends from home, Judy and Dave Eisele will be here Tuesday for a visit on their way to their winter "digs" in Palmetto, FL.  Can't wait to see them.

Oh yes....the "clicking" noise is STILL in the AC Vent when the furnace comes on !!!  Grrrrrr
