| Our poles, all ready to go....here Fishy, Fishy.... |
Arriving at the marina docks, in Destin, we found there were lots of other people going too.
The seas were quite rough when we left with big rolling waves. It knocked us around quite a bit, but being former, intrepid boaters, we just held on and enjoyed the ride. Once at our first fishing stop, we dropped our pre-baited lines & were officially ocean fishing. The poles were big and heavy with 2 hooks and a very large #16 sinker. There was a posted sign that said if you drop/lose your pole, it will cost $150.00...YIKES!! I caught the first fish of our 4-some and it was a "keeper". Everybody had their own cooler with ice and their catches were thrown in this numbered cooler. Roger caught the most fish. They were Mackeral, Sea Bass, Snapper, Ruby Red & some kind of sucker fish that was thrown back!!
The seas calmed down during the day which made fishing so much easier!! There was a pod of dolphins that kept circling the boat and popping up right beside us. Very neat!! Did I get a picture you ask? Nope!!
The crew of our fishing boat filleted the fish for us (not well!!) and we grilled them and the Ohare's and us had a delicious dinner.
